Our story — since 2015

One girl, a kitchen table, and a stubborn little idea.

Beautiful, waterproof jewellery that shouldn't cost a fortune — or be too precious to actually wear. Ten years on, still designed and made by hand in Sydney.

Where it began

A maker from the very beginning.

Alice was born in Cannes, France, in 1993 — the kind of child who was always making something to sell. She fixed little gadgets, took on extra chores, even ran pop-up “restaurants” for her family, just to earn a few extra dollars.

In 2000, her dad's work brought the family to Australia, where her mum stepped back from work to raise them. Five years later, her parents divorced. Alice was still young, but it shaped her in a way that stuck. Even then, she knew she wanted to stand on her own two feet — to build a life and an income that were fully her own, and never have to rely on anyone else to feel secure. That quiet determination to be independent is where her story really begins.

She had always loved making things, so that's where she started. Around this time, she and her mum — a gifted painter and creator, and DIY'er — began creating jewellery together, selling their pieces at school fairs and the Bondi markets. Her mum is where Alice's creative eye comes from — and what began as something they did together slowly grew into the future Alice was building for herself.

The leap

The summer everything changed.

A uni-holiday side project that doubled, and doubled, and doubled again.

The Littl really began in the summer of 2015. Fresh out of a break-up and with time on her hands over the uni holidays, Alice poured everything into something of her own. Within a month, the first designs were live and the orders started coming in.

She'd been studying Interior Architecture at UNSW while modelling on the side, and when she finished her degree she kept modelling too, making and sending out orders for the business in between. Then, almost from one day to the next, her modelling hours dropped away. That was the moment Alice went all in on the jewellery. It wasn't the side gig anymore, and there was no choice but to make it work.

That was when she brought in help for the first time, hiring a friend who had just started her own marketing agency. Month after month, the sales doubled, and doubled, and doubled again.

By 2020, the demand had outgrown her. Alice was running on four or five hours' sleep, still wearing every single hat — shooting and editing the content, listing the products online, making each piece by hand, packing every order and carrying them to the post office herself — and sharing all of it on Instagram as she went.

It was there, right after the biggest Black Friday and Christmas the brand had ever had, that a stranger messaged her on Instagram to ask if she needed help. In early 2020, The Littl hired its very first employee.

The years since haven't come without their growing pains — like most e-commerce businesses scaling for the first time with no rulebook, The Littl learned a lot the hard way. It's taken the last couple of years to find its feet and build the structure it runs on now, and it's been a huge learning curve. Alice couldn't be more grateful for where it's landed.

What keeps the whole thing going is simple: a love of the product, of function and longevity, and, most of all, the customers. Some have shopped with The Littl twenty times over; many, six or seven. The reviews, and the meaning people find in a piece they've chosen to keep, are what keep the brand obsessed with getting it right.

Still ours

Small, hands-on, and close to home.

The Littl is still a small, lean team in Sydney — and every single design is still drawn by Alice herself, right here at home. The customers are the focus of everything they do, and behind the scenes the team is always working to improve, refining the process a little more each season.

From Alice's mum's kitchen table to 250,000 pieces of jewellery sold, it's been quite a journey — and one they're endlessly grateful for.

A note from Alice

“I never set out to build a big brand. I just wanted to make beautiful things people would actually wear and love. Ten years on, that's still the whole point — and I'm so grateful you're here for it.”
